04 September 2020

COTABATO CITY - The Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB) conducted its three-day Verification and Processing Team (VPT) Training 3.0 on 25-27 August 2020 at the EM Manor Hotel and Convention Center, Cotabato City.

Spearheaded by the Operations Department composed of the Operations, Planning and Training Section (OPTS) and the Information and Communications Technology Section (ICTS), the said capacity development activity participated by 30 VPT members aimed at improving the participants' performance in terms of communication and data gathering process and at addressing the identified gaps in their skills during the previous phase of the decommissioning process. This initiative is in line with IDB's preparations to equip all its personnel with necessary skills for the third phase of decommissioning.

The three-day training entailed lectures on the different technical skills imperative to the participants' tasks as enumerators such as computer system servicing, database management, and effective communication techniques. These lectures were provided by key IDB personnel who have technical expertise on the said topics. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XII Program Head for the Normalization Program – Ms. Norhata Benito, also graced the activity and served as the resource person discussing the issues encountered and communication strategies practiced at the Task Force for Decommissioned Combatants and their Communities (TFDCC) area during the decommissioning process.

Moreover, the training paved way for the drafting of the VPT Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to provide clear guidelines in addressing several issues and concerns encountered by the VPT members during decommissioning. It concluded with a teambuilding activity designed to develop the participants’ leadership skills and to reinforce teamwork and camaraderie among them.

The VPT Training 3.0 is IDB's first externally held capacity development activity amid the ongoing pandemic. With this, safety and health measures to counter COVID-19 were strictly observed during the entire conduct of the activity. Further, this will also serve as a benchmark for future activities of IDB during the ‘New Normal’. //CRA
