IDB and Japan Continues Collaboration to Advance the BARMM Peace Process

 
 

Cotabato City, Philippines – The Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB) hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on November 19 to discuss the ongoing decommissioning process of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). The engagement highlighted the shared commitment of both parties to fostering long-term peace and stability in the Bangsamoro region.

The meeting provided a valuable platform for exchanging insights and exploring opportunities for collaboration in support of the peace process. Discussions centered on the progress of the decommissioning process, the challenges encountered, and the vital role of international partnerships in achieving lasting peace.

The decommissioning process is a cornerstone of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro, representing a significant step toward the normalization of the region. Through the decommisisoning of MILF combatants and their reintegration into civilian society, the process aims to rebuild trust, foster reconciliation, and lay the groundwork for sustainable peace and development.

The Japanese delegation commended the IDB’s unwavering efforts, emphasizing the importance of international solidarity in addressing the complexities of post-conflict recovery. They reiterated Japan’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote stability, human security, and economic development in the Bangsamoro.
