Norway's NORCAP Reinforces Support for Bangsamoro Decommissioning Efforts

 
 

Barira, Maguindanao del Norte – Representatives from the Norwegian Capacity (NORCAP), operated by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), visited the Independent Decommissioning Body’s (IDB) Headquarters in Cotabato City and Secured Arms Storage Area (SASA) at Camp Abubakar, Brgy. Tugaig, Barira, Maguindanao del Norte, to gain firsthand insight into the ongoing peace process in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The visit, conducted on February 25-27, 2025, provided NORCAP officials with a comprehensive understanding of the IDB’s operations and routine procedures. The IDB Chief of Staff led a guided tour that also allowed the delegation to witness the secure storage of decommissioned weapons.

NORCAP representatives expressed their strong support for the IDB’s role in the peace process and commended their diligent efforts in ensuring the safe and secure storage of decommissioned firearms. This visit underscores Norway’s continued commitment as a key partner in overseeing the decommissioning process, an essential component of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.

The IDB-SASA plays an important role in building trust and confidence in the decommissioning process, contributing significantly to the stability and lasting peace in the region.
